I like Valentine’s Day as a whimsical celebration that brightens up a cold mid-February day. It provides the perfect excuse to temporarily break any New Year’s resolutions to swear off sugar, and instead happily indulge in a decadent square of salted caramel chocolate. Yet, for many people, Valentine’s Day results in tears and tantrums. In fact, over half of women say they would end their relationship if they didn’t get something.
Isn’t that blowing things just a little out of proportion?

Good stuff, Sue! Personally, I’m on a campaign to help clients “take back February 14th”…there aren’t too may other days that causes more misery, are there? Whether single and, like you said, comparing themselves to people who have movie-worthy love, or in a relationship and comparing what they get from their man to what everyone else is getting from their man (who obviously loves them more!), I vote for taking Hallmark/FTD/Kay Jewelers down a notch. My husband is so happy that I told him years ago that he was “off the hook” about V-Day.

Happy Valentine’s Day, Karen! I love your attitude–and I’m sure your clients love it too! This is the first year my husband & I have not exchanged cards or chocolate. He is working out-of-town all week so not around. And, honestly, I was happy to be off the hook too. I have enough other writing deadlines this week…Valentine’s Day card writing would have toppled me over the edge! I always love hearing from you! Thanks, Karen!

I received a card and I bought one for my husband too, only I bought a birthday card by mistake. I’m a goof, but that’s part of what keeps the relationship going. A low-key dinner at our local made for a lovely evening.
Hope you had a great day Sue, even though you were not with your husband.

Thanks, Eden! And, I bet your husband got a real kick out of your goofy mistake! xo
