I interviewed the brother-sister owners of The Black Pearl Tattoos and Piercings, for one of my stories for Yellow Pages. I have pierced ears, which is probably about as “crazy” as I’ll ever get. I did make an appointment to get a belly ring once. However, I made the mistake of telling Jake (who was probably six or seven at the time). He got really upset and told me that he didn’t want a “cool” mom just a “normal” mom (as if that was even possible).
As for tattoos, I faint at the sight of needles, which makes me a really poor candidate. I dissuaded a now older Jake from getting one a few years ago because I thought it unwise to make a “permanent” decision that he may regret later. Tattoos have become very popular in his millennial age group. 40% of adults between the ages of 25 and 40 have at least one tattoo. And as for “regrets,” most people don’t have them. Only 17% say they wished they had thought twice. (source: Statistics Brain).
So, if you’re looking to express yourself through body art you should definitely meet Mike and Julie. I don’t think you will have any regrets.
Here is their story.
A Brother-Sister Powerhouse
Brother and sister Mike and Julie Storey wear the love of their tattoo and piercing business, The Black Pearl, on their sleeve. Literally. When asked about their favourite tattoos, Julie points to the image of Angelina Jolie on her right forearm. “Angelina has a cool look, and I love this photo,” she says. Mike’s favourite is an abstract tattoo on his neck, done in Germany. “I was following this artist for many years, and told him to do whatever he likes,” he says.

Thanks Eden! I love that people are gutsy enough (way way gutsier than me) to commit to a permanent statement!
